Late payment of salaries

Postby Printer » 30 Jul 2010, 22:24

If an employee's salary is not paid by the last day of the month, is it a valid reason for him not to come to work on the first day of the next month?

I assume you normally pay your employees on or before the last day of the month? The answer is no. In terms of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act:

(3) An employer must pay remuneration not later than seven days after—
(a) the completion of the period for which the remuneration is payable; or
(b) the termination of the contract of employment.
