Unread post by larna » 06 Mar 2018, 08:45

Good day

Can a person appointed in terms of the GMR 2.1 be responsible for more than one facility?

We have different farms(10+) in the Cape which are as far as 200km apart. We use more than 20MVA and 11MVA on average 30 minutes accross all the farms. Can my manager appoint me as GMR 2(1) and list all the farms or I just need to be appointed for one farm only

GMR 2(8) Except with the approval of an inspector, no person designated in terms of subregulations (1) or (7) shall supervise machinery on or in any premises other than the premises in respect of which he had been designated.

I am not sure that the answer was given to these questions. I have been the GMR (2) for multiple facilities albeit for a few months and they were approx 50km apart at most.
I am in a similar situation as Vitzwaters...
Our situation is as such.
The group owns 6 legal entities which then owns 14 farms between them. These farms are spread over an area of approx. 400km.
We have Group Engineer who is Certficated (GCC) and responsible for all the farms equipment and machinery, including packhouses...
Can the Engineer be appointed as GMR 2 for the group under the holding company ( with his areas of responsibility defined as all the farms/packhouses) or does he need be appointed under each legal entity?
GMR 2 (7) means that we can appoint others to assist, and this we can do although they are not Certificated (GCC).Would/Can these then be appointed by CEO and report into the GMR 2 (1). Do you then appoint them as GMR 2 (7)'s?
Guidance please...

Good Day

There is a new structure that is proposed and it doesn't include the Plant Manager as he was a 16.2 appointee.
On the new one it is proposed that GMR 2.1 will be the new site superintendent and will have 16.2 and 2.1 apointment

My question is, is it legal to appoint the same person to be a 16.2 and a GMR 2.1 on the same company/premises?

Good day,

Do I need to appoint a GMR2 in the factory. We are using machinery and they are powered by electricity. However the sum of the power generated by the machinery on the premises is below 1200kW and we do not distribute electricity.
